Survey Reveals: AI Features on Apple and Samsung Smartphones Fall Short of Expectations

A recent survey conducted by smartphone trading platform SellCell reveals growing interest in AI-powered features among iPhone users. However, the majority expressed dissatisfaction with the current AI offerings, branded as “Apple Intelligence.”

The study found that nearly half (47.6%) of iPhone users consider AI to be “very important” or “somewhat important” when purchasing a new smartphone, compared to only 23.7% of Samsung users who shared the same sentiment. This highlights a stronger preference for AI technologies among iPhone users than their Samsung counterparts.

Despite this interest, 73% of iPhone users and 87% of Samsung Galaxy users described the current AI features—“Apple Intelligence” and “Galaxy AI,” respectively—as “not very valuable” or “adding little to no value” to their smartphone experience.

The survey also ranked the popularity of existing “Apple Intelligence” features prior to the release of iOS 18.2. Topping the list were “Writing Tools” (72%), followed by “Notification Summaries” (54%), “Priority Messages” (44.5%), “Unwanted Object Removal from Photos” (29.1%), and “Smart Reply in Mail and Messages” (20.9%).

Notably, the survey was conducted before the iOS 18.2 update, which introduced additional features such as AI-powered image and emoji generation and the integration of ChatGPT into Siri. This enhancement allows users to interact with the advanced AI assistant directly on Apple devices.

The findings raise important questions about the future of AI features and how upcoming innovations might reshape user perceptions of AI technologies in the smartphone industry.
