Samsung May Bring Qi2 Wireless Charging to the Galaxy S25 Series

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 series could finally mark the arrival of the Qi2 wireless charging standard on a major Android flagship. While Qi2 was introduced nearly two years ago, its adoption across Android devices has been slow, with only the HMD Skyline supporting the technology so far.

What is Qi2, and Why Does It Matter?

The updated Qi2 wireless charging standard introduces a magnetic ring to devices, ensuring better alignment with chargers and paving the way for a new wave of accessories. Apple pioneered this concept with its iPhone series and worked closely with the Wireless Power Consortium, encouraging broader adoption among smartphone manufacturers.

Despite this, no major Android brand has yet embraced Qi2. Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series might change that, bringing the standard to a wider audience and potentially sparking greater adoption across the industry.

Hints of Qi2 in the Galaxy S25 Series

According to a reliable Samsung leaker, Ice Universe, the Galaxy S25 series is rumored to support Qi2 wireless charging. The leaker confirmed on Weibo that the rumor is “true” (via @Jukanloseve). While details are limited, the charging speeds are expected to remain at 15W, aligning with current standards.

If Samsung incorporates Qi2 into its Galaxy S25 lineup, it would be a game-changer for the standard. As one of the most popular Android flagship brands, Samsung’s adoption of Qi2 could encourage other manufacturers to follow suit, creating a more unified ecosystem for wireless charging.

Slow Progress for Qi2 on Android

The lack of Qi2 adoption on Android so far is notable. Many expected the technology to debut with Google’s Pixel 9 series or the OnePlus 13, but neither device incorporated it. This leaves Samsung in a position to be the first major Android player to adopt Qi2 in 2025.

When to Expect the Galaxy S25 Series

Samsung is anticipated to launch the Galaxy S25 series in January 2025, giving fans plenty to look forward to in terms of innovation and design.
