Apple Wins Lawsuit Against AliveCor, Avoids Watch Ban

Apple has successfully defended itself in a legal dispute with health technology company AliveCor over ECG (electrocardiogram) patents in the Apple Watch. The lawsuit, which could have led to an import ban on the smartwatch in the U.S., ended in Apple’s favor after a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

The court upheld the decision of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), which deemed AliveCor’s contested patents invalid. This effectively nullified the legal basis for the import ban previously recommended by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).

Apple welcomed the ruling, emphasizing its commitment to advancing health and safety features in its products. Meanwhile, AliveCor expressed disappointment, arguing that the decision harms innovation and fair competition. The company has stated that it will continue exploring legal options, including potential appeals.
