Apple Set to Launch iPhone 17 Air This Year

Bloomberg reports that Apple is gearing up to release a new smartphone, the iPhone 17 Air, this fall. The device is expected to feature an ultra-slim design and serve as a “testbed” for Apple’s future technologies, including advancements paving the way for the company’s first foldable devices.

The “Air” branding is familiar within Apple’s product lineup, previously used for the slimmest versions of MacBooks and iPads. Following this trend, the iPhone 17 Air is rumored to be approximately 2 millimeters thinner than current iPhone models.

With a thickness ranging between 5.5 mm and 6.25 mm, the iPhone 17 Air will rival the iPad Pro M4 in thinness and surpass Apple’s slimmest iPhone to date, the iPhone 6.

This groundbreaking design isn’t just about aesthetics. Bloomberg highlights that Apple sees this step as essential to its development of foldable devices, such as future foldable iPads and iPhones.

The iPhone 17 Air may also debut Apple’s first in-house cellular modem, codenamed “Sinope,” set to launch earlier this year with the iPhone SE. Additionally, the phone will likely include Apple-designed chips for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Key specifications expected for the iPhone 17 Air include:

  • A 6.6-inch ProMotion OLED display with a variable refresh rate of 120Hz, previously exclusive to Pro models.
  • A single rear camera with a 48-megapixel resolution and a front camera with 24-megapixel resolution.
  • Powered by the A19 chip and 8GB of RAM to support advanced AI capabilities.

If these rumors hold true, the iPhone 17 Air will combine ultra-slim design with powerful performance and cutting-edge innovation. It marks a significant step in Apple’s roadmap toward foldable devices, showcasing the company’s commitment to redefining the smartphone experience.
