Recent reports suggest that all iPhones currently supporting iOS 18 will also be eligible for the upcoming iOS 19 upgrade. According to French site iPhoneSoft, which cited insider sources at Apple, the company plans to retain support for all devices currently running iOS 18.
If the report holds true, models like the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR—released in 2018—along with the iPhone 11 series and newer devices, will receive the iOS 19 update. However, as is common with Apple’s yearly updates, older devices may not fully benefit from all the new features due to hardware limitations.
Older iPads May Miss Out on iPadOS 19
While most iPhones will upgrade to iOS 19, the situation differs slightly for iPads. The report notes that older iPad models, such as the 7th-generation iPad from 2019 with the A10 processor, will not support iPadOS 19. This aligns with Apple’s trend of gradually phasing out support for older hardware in its annual updates.
Release Timeline for iOS 19 and iPadOS 19
Apple is expected to unveil beta versions of iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 in June 2025 during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2025). The stable versions are likely to be rolled out to all users in September, following Apple’s traditional release schedule.
What to Expect from iOS 19 Features
Bloomberg previously indicated that iOS 19 may feature fewer major upgrades compared to iOS 18. However, Apple is likely to introduce incremental improvements, particularly in its AI-powered “Apple Intelligence” tools. These features, first introduced with iOS 18, are being rolled out gradually and are expected to play a central role in iOS 19.
