Several users have reported significant technical problems following the installation of the latest Windows 11 update (24H2), released in October. Microsoft has acknowledged these issues, which impact device performance and functionality. The company has identified two primary concerns: sound disruptions and complications with the Auto HDR feature designed to enhance visual quality.
Sound Issue Linked to Dirac Audio Technology
The sound problem specifically affects devices from a single manufacturer, which Microsoft has not named. These devices utilize Dirac Audio technology and include the cridspapo.dll file responsible for audio processing. As a result, users experience a complete loss of sound through built-in speakers, Bluetooth speakers, headphones, and other audio devices. Currently, there are no available workarounds for affected users.
Auto HDR Malfunction Impacts Gaming Experience
The second issue involves the Auto HDR feature, which converts standard dynamic range (SDR) visuals to high dynamic range (HDR). This malfunction leads to incorrect color representation or causes games to stop responding altogether. The only temporary solution for affected users is to disable the Auto HDR feature entirely.
Microsoft’s Response
In response to these challenges, Microsoft has paused the rollout of the Windows 11 (24H2) update for impacted devices. The company stated that the suspension would remain in place until the problems are resolved. This is not the first time Microsoft has halted the update’s distribution; earlier issues affecting gamers also prompted a temporary suspension before the update was re-released.
